Abstract:
This manuscript reports the findings of a study conducted in a manufacturing assembly plant that is in the journey of incorporating Industry 4.0 technologies on its production floor. In this manufacturing company, some manual operations will be replaced with painting robots, because of that, a digital twin was created to quantify the influence of them. Specifically, during this investigation, the influence of the buffer size over the proposed manufacturing system with painting robots on it was quantified. This study demonstrates the relevance of the digital twin as a design tool that one can employ to plan a gradual transition from a classical manufacturing production floor to a modern production floor with Industry 4.0 technologies.
