Abstract:
Satellite networks provide global coverage and support a wide range of services. Since Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites provide short round-trip delays, they are becoming increasingly important for real-time applications, such as voice, teleconferencing and video traffic. Many applications require a mechanism to deliver information to multiple recipients. In this context, we propose two all optical multicasting approaches based on codewords designed for LEO satellites: the first approach is based on the shortest paths and the second approach is based on the concept of virtual multicast trees. The proposed multicast approaches consider free space optical communication links between satellites, which provides high data rate for real time applications.
