Abstract:
The increasing complexity of new products, production systems as well as customer requirements, bring out huge challenges for companies. Especially regarding the complaint management process, it is necessary to ask how these challenges can still be managed and controlled by individual employees. Current approaches and software systems help to minimize the effect of these challenges but they also reach their limits because of the complexity. For this reason, the research group “Product Safety and Quality” has developed an algorithm to search failure cause and to find a solution to support the complaint management process in identifying failures in the production system and eliminating them. This algorithm was initially based on a conceptual model and was subsequently implemented based on VBA in Excel. The result was the first prototype of this algorithm. To evaluate the algorithm in terms of possible weak points and potentials for improvement, the prototype was validated in the industry in the field of stamping and metal forming. The results of this evaluation are reported in this paper and lessons learned are summarized in the conclusion
