Abstract:
Three years after the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, the academic world is still feeling the effects of the sudden changes brought along by this unprecedented event. With most academic institutions abruptly switching to online teaching in 2020, pursuing the goals of implementing active and collaborative learning has turned into a challenging endeavour. New strategies had to be imagined and the question arises whether this abrupt transition to online teaching can remain successful, especially in multicultural groups. This paper is based on the experience of teaching a graduate software engineering course to a multicultural group of students. It describes the active and collaborative learning strategies employed during offline classes and highlights the impact of switching from an offline to an online class modality. The results show that the sudden switch to online teaching was managed successfully and the active and collaborating teaching activities were successful in fulfilling the course objectives and offering student satisfaction with the course and the learning process.
