Abstract:
Membrane systems (or P systems) are a computational model inspired by the functioning of the cell, and based upon the notion of cellular membrane. In this paper, we give a survey of some main results concerning the model, to show its potential to approach various problems in the area of the theory of computation. Some main variants are also recalled, as well as some main actual research directions.
