Abstract:
In this paper we propose a mathematical framework for the performance evaluation of an all-optical packet switch, in terms of packet blocking probability. We provide the analytical models for several QoS differentiation schemes, including wavelength conversion, packet dropping, pre-emptive dropping, fiber delay lines, and wavelength reservation. We demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed models by comparing the analytical results with that of simulation; the results are found to be quite satisfactory.
