Abstract:
Although the wireless technology nowadays provides satisfying bandwidth and higher speeds, it still lacks improvements with regard to handoff performance. Existing solutions for reducing handoff delays are specific to a particular network technology or require expensive upgrades of the whole infrastructure. In this paper, we investigate performance benefits of leveraging the Kerberos ticket cashing mechanism for achieving faster re-authentications in IEEE 802.11 wireless access networks. For this purpose, we designed a new EAP authentication method, EAP-Kerberos, and evaluated re-authentication performance in different scenarios.
