Abstract:
This article proposes a prototype to measure the Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) value in devices of ZigBee-based networks. The developed device was employed in two outdoor experiments, to verify how far transmitter and receiver can be separated to still maintain a connection. The proposed system utilizes a XBee module Series 1, an Arduino Uno R3 microcontroller board, a XBee Arduino Shield and a LCD. The measurements were accomplished on and over a grass environment. The RSSI meter demonstrated efficiency for good quality connections, but at certain environmental conditions, the connection was lost at a short distance of 9 m.
