Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to assess the accuracy of the Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI), specifically naming point of interests (POIs), in OpenStreetMap (OSM). For this, we compared, from a lexical perspective, the similarity of POI names in the OSM dataset with their corresponding names in a reference dataset. The overall similarity is 80.62% suggesting that POI names in OSM have potential to be an accurate and reliable source.
