Abstract:
Based on a narrative review, this paper synthesizes the main contributions of the operations management and the information systems disciplines to the business process management literature. Our findings show that the operations management discipline has been the main contributor to the topics of business process definition, business process standardization, business process outsourcing/offshoring, Six Sigma, and business process management theories while the information systems discipline has been the main contributor to the topics of business process reengineering, the role of information technology, and the business process management nomological network.
