Sleep Evaluation Influenced by Negative Emotions and Memories After Awakening Among Adolescents and Young Adults

Abstract:
Examined the prevalence of sleep evaluation and sleep behavior among adolescents and young adults. A sample size of the young’s population of the region Eindhoven, consisting of 64 participants (age 16-27, 36 males, 28 woman) have participated. In this study, their sleeping habits have been questioned and their subjective sleep experience and evaluation have been analyzed. In a follow up study, three subjects participated in a case study of sleep quality and evaluation. Comparing to previous studies regarding sleep behavior, the participants within the case study and questionnaire study, have shown that their overall amount of sleep is not below standards and guidelines for healthy sleep. Among the participants, 25,8% state in the questionnaire they do experience bad or negative sleep. In total, adolescents and young teenagers do sleep less but within healthy sleep margin. Their sleep evaluation is influenced by the memories and negative emotions after experiencing bad sleep. Good sleep experience is compared to bad sleep underappreciated and easily forgotten.
