Abstract:
If implemented correctly, automated software testing maybe an efficient way to circumvent time and resource shortages and ensure faster time to market for new products. Our experience and survey data show that the execution of automated tests is often accompanied by a number of time-consuming and routine operations that are performed manually, e.g., operating virtual machines, setup and cleanup of the environment, test launch, logging defects, etc. These menial chores can be automated with the help of simple command files or by developing an automated testing control solution. In the long run, the latter is a more efficient approach. The paper focuses on the challenges that companies face in attempting to build such a solution, and provides practical recommendations on implementation. Finally, we provide an architecture proposal for the system for automated testing based on testing tools integration, define its features and describe the interactions between its components.
