Decentralized control, grand scheme of things (3): control structures, summary of options

Summary:

Once you have a well-designed process, various aspects of the control structure are discussed here (information flow, division of tasks), in the decentralized case (we are not going to add dozens or hundreds of sensors and actuators to a single computer, in principle).

Specifically, we discuss:

• Multi-loop base configuration, decoupling

• Extra sensors (cascade, sensory fusion, prefeeding)

• Missing sensors (open loop, inferential, observers)

• Extra actuators (actuator fusion, cascade)

• Sensors and extra aquators (gradual, secondary references)

• Hierarchical control (multiple cascade)

• Safety aspects in loops (fault detection, override, redundancy)

• Refinements (non-linear blocks, means, maximums, …)

The video also ends up saying that things are done a certain way in certain technological sectors for a reason: know your process and the reasons under the decisions that others made before you decide to change things.
