This video concludes the presentation of the ‘grand scheme of things’ in ’everyday’ industrial control (maybe ultra-modern factories and research teams will not adhere to these recommendations). After having discussed in previous videos the design of the process so that it is ‘easy to control’ and the selection of controlled and manipulated variables, measurements and control structure, here we discuss the tuning of regulators, implementation and data analysis.
Regulator tuning discusses whether or not it is worth tuning all loops, the importance of on-off control, tuning with/without models (experimental tuning in the latter case), and some advanced aspects and refinements.
The discussion on implementation deals with software tools to use, supervision, bumpless transfer, security, event registration, etc.
Data analysis must be done to plan production, maintenance, guide experiment design, and find out the root causes of variability: if variability is reduced, the operating point can further approach technological or regulatory limits to achieve cost savings without violating said restrictions.
