Research Lines at EXTREMAT

The aim of EXTREMAT research group at the Technical University of Valencia is the synthesis and the study of the structural, vibrational, optical and electrical properties of materials under extreme conditions of pressure and temperature.

As can be observed in the research publications of the group, EXTREMAT has two main research lines: 1) The study of binary, ternary and quaternary compounds with interest in Electronics, Optoelectronics and Spintronics. 2) The study of minerals with interest in Geophysics and Astrophysics.

Among the studied materials we can find:

§  Binary semiconductors and insulators of several families:

§  III-V family

We have experience in several semiconductors like GaAs, GaP, InGaAs, as well as AlN, GaN and InN.

§  II-VI family

We have experience with semiconductors like ZnO and ZnS.

§  I-VII family

We have experience with semiconductors of the CuBr family.

§  III-VI family

We have broad experience with different semiconductors of this family like sesquioxides (Al2O3, In2O3, Tl2O3 and Y2O3) and layered compounds of tetrahedral coordination (InSe, GaSe, GaS y GaTe).

§  V-VI family

Our group has studied several semiconductors of this family like sesquioxides and sesquichalcogenides (As2O3, Sb2O3, Bi2O3, Bi2Se3, Bi2Te3, Sb2Te3). Some of the sesquichalcogenides behave as 3D topological insulators at room or high pressure.

§  Ternary semiconductors and insulators:

§  ABX4 family

Our group has studied different semiconductors of this family like YVO4, NdVO4, CeVO4, YLiF4, BiPO4, TbPO4, CaWO4, SrWO4, PbWO4, BaWO4, HgWO4, and PbMoO4.

§  AB2X4 (II-III2-VI4) family

Our group has experience in studying different insulators and semiconductors of this family including oxides and sulphides with spinel-related structure (ZnAl2O4, ZnCo2O4, ZnMn2O4, and CdIn2S4) and chalcogenides with defect chalcopyrite and related structures (CdAl2S4, CdGa2S4, HgGa2S4, ZnGa2Se4, CdGa2Se4, HgGa2Se4, and ZnGa2Te4).
