R. Miralles was born in Valencia (Spain) in 1971. He received the MSc and PhD degrees in Telecommunications Engineering from the “Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV)” in 1995 and 2000, respectively. He is now, since 2017, full professor in the “Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros de Telecomunicación” (UPV). He also works as a researcher in the Institute of Telecommunication and Multimedia Applications (iTEAM).
Furthermore, he has published over 40 publications on a variety of aspects of signal processing in some of the highest impact factor JCR journals, and has led numerous European and National research projects.
At the present moment he works in developing signal processing algorithms and passive acoustic monitoring instrumentation to study the ecology of marine animals as well as the potential effects of anthropogenic noises on them. He has also been working in the development of ultrasonic sensors for nondestructive testing and signal processing for industrial applications. His research interests are machine learning, pattern recognition, nonlinear signal processing, and time frequency representations, specifically applied to acoustic and ultrasonic signals.
