Abstract
“La Mojiganga” is a unique ritual folk dance, declared Intangible Heritage
of Local Relevance, which takes place in the town of Titaguas since the
eighteenth century.
It is considered one of the purest folk dances in their origins, since it
comes from the “Ball de Valencians” of the Renaissance, keeping intact
the structures, movements and music. Is one of the purest folk dance in
its origins: “Ball of the Valencians” of the Renaissance. It keeps intact the
structures, movements and music. This is the origin of the “Castellers” of
Tarragona.
These ritual or symbolic dances were represented in a great number of
locations in the region of Los Serranos and of the Comunitat Valenciana,
but only now has kept the “Mojiganga” of Titaguas and the “Muixeranga”
of Algemesí (Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2011).
This performance is unique, historical and symbolic. It has passed orally
from generation to generation, the population considers “La Mojiganga”
as their top hallmark. This representation performs every seven years.The
actors who dance are sixteen adults and three children, called “angelicos”.
