located in the United States, 53 in Europe, 7 in Asia, 3 in Africa, 2 in Central
& South America and 2 in Oceania.
Networks of 2-mode were represented by means of UCINET and NETDRAW
software. Centralization degree for affiliation matrixes was calculated in order
to determine which institutions co-authored more papers with museums.
Important con-clusions are inferred from the results. The first is that museums
write mainly papers by its own. The second is that when museums co-author
papers with other institutions, the later are mainly located in their own country
or Europe (when Europe is not its own country). These institutions are, in
order of importance: research institutes located in its own country, synthetic
departments in universities (engineering and IT) located in its own country,
research institutes located in Europe, analytical departments in uni-versities
(physics and chemistry) located in Europe, and other museums located in USA
& Canada. Thereafter, results indicate the importance of Europe in explaining
innovation in the conservation & restoration of artworks. Moreover, results also
illus-trate that museums look for institutions which have the different types of
knowledge bases: symbolic, analytical and synthetic.
