Keywords:
tourism competitiveness, sustainability, religious, cultural, sport,
Núria Valley.
The competitivenes of a touristic destination is still a concept under study. Several
authors have tried to disentangle the different aspects that influence it. The “Nuria
Valley” is an idiosincrasic paradigm as it integrates cultural, religious, sport
related, and sustainable environmental aspects to offer an attractive touristic
destina-tion. Promoting the natural resources and the implementation of the
Environmental Management Systems, the information regarding the protection
of the natural re-sources and the special allocation of the resource that only can
be accessed trough a cog train, can explain its success.
A confluence of religion, history, leisure and natural resources make the Nuria
Valley a paradigmatic case of sustainable tourism. The main findings of the study
highlight the importance of the infrastructure investments and the zip train as a
sustainable transport that enhances the natural surroundings.
