Deformable Brain Atlas

Seven Radial Basis Functions were developed: 3 of Wu, 3 of Wendland and the Thin Plate Spline. Cortex and ventricles were segmented using Active Appearance Models (AAMs). The Talairach-Tournoux brain atlas was used. Three studies were carried out:

• The system was validated using data from 10 patients (20 nucleus) operated on for Parkinson's. The images were T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
• The system was validated using data from 14 nuclei where an expert located the subthalamic nucleus. The images were T2-weighted MRI images.
• The system was validated using data from 10 patients where two experts identified seven anatomical structures. The images were T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
