Introduction
The main objective of this study is to show another way to improve the quality
of life of local communities through the conservation of natural and cultural
resources, generating more income and implementing new alternatives for
local development.
At present, the Uruguayan Ministry of Tourism has conducted several reports
on the tourism sector, claiming the existence of its growth. However, it is still
necessary the appreciation of Uruguayan muralism to be part of the main tourist
circuits of the country and to show it on the international scene. Without the
recognition of muralist production, cultural tourism is losing a great opportunity.
The Uruguayan mural painting concept is presented as a clear reflection of
society since it shows the viewer the multicultural history that has been developed
over the past 200 years with the birth of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay.
Currently, most of the Uruguayan muralist production of the XX and XXI centuries
is in a process of deactivation, with the exception of the work of Torres Garcia
and his workshop students, which has got international recognition. Therefore,
Uruguayan wall mural art should not be forgotten because it is a fundamental
witness of the history of the country itself, it is a generator of understanding the
various cultures that create the nation and reflects the memory of the country.
Besides, a significant cultural exchange it is currently being generated by the
work of national artist and international art scenes, contributing to the creation
of some popular creative environments, promoting fundamental concepts such
as cultural democratization and artistic-cultural exchange, leading to the need
to promote a partnership approach, promoting the creation of a collective
consciousness on the importance of conserving nature as cultural-heritage,
which represents their identity and memory.
One example of popular creative envioranment find oneself in the “Museo
Abierto de Arte Iberoamericano” (MAAIS) of San Gregorio de Polanco, where
through of the creation of murals is being generate sustainable cultural tourism,
obtaining to increase inside of de local economy and development and cultural
access very important within national scenec.
